Are You Going to Celebrate Earth Day?

March 16, 2008

The official date of Earth Day is April 22, 2008. Earth Day Celebrations are scheduled for the weekend before or after April 22, 2008. regardless of when you hold your celebration the most important thing to keep in mind is: Earth Day is every day for Everybody.

A Brief History of earth Day!

Earth Day was started on April 22, 1970 by Gaylord Nelson (ex-Senator from Wisconsin). This day is the birth of the modern environmental movement in the United States due to American powering their massive V8 sedans with leaded gasoline. Industry belched out smoke and sludge with little fear of legal consequences or even bad press. Air pollution in the 70's was commonly accepted as the smell of prosperity.

Earth Day is a day of celebration for all the groups who have been working together for a healthy, sustainable environment. These groups have been fighting against oil spills, raw sewage, toxic dumps, heavily-polluting factories, and power plants, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wildness and the extinction of wildlife.

The first Earth Day led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the passing of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act.

There are thousands of activities that you can put into place or participate in for example: demonstrations, tree plantings, earth fairs, river clean-up, cultural events, and government-sponsored initiatives.

Earth Day activities educate and mobilize people worldwide for environmental protection. It inspires action on personal, community, national, and international levels.

We ask what have you done lately for the environment? Take a look at this picture in the future, if we don't :when we drink water, it makes us sick". The Air we breath is so bad that we have to wear oxygen masks when we go outside. We can change this scenario.
